Events & Community Engagement Intern

Reports to: Opportunity Knocks Board (Primarily: Marketing Officer, Board Chair, & Events Officer)


Overview

Opportunity Knocks (OK) is a Central Oregon nonprofit that supports local business leaders through peer mentorship, connection, and community. We’re seeking a personable, organized Events & Community Engagement Intern to help bring our gatherings to life.

This role is perfect for a student interested in event coordination, community relations, or marketing who wants to build relationships with Bend-area business professionals while gaining real-world, résumé-worthy experience.

This is an unpaid volunteer internship (2–3 hours per week) offering high visibility within Central Oregon’s business community and the opportunity to connect directly with local leaders, founders, and changemakers.

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

Event Coordination & On-Site Support (70%)

  • Attend monthly OK Mixers (third Thursday of each month) and occasional special events
  • Support event setup, signage, and guest check-in
  • Greet attendees and help foster a welcoming, connected atmosphere
  • Capture light event photos or short clips for social media use Assist with post-event wrap-up (collecting feedback, notes, or materials)

Community Engagement & Light Marketing Support (30%)

  • Support event promotion through OK’s social channels and email list
  • Help update event listings on Eventbrite
  • Coordinate occasional member or facilitator spotlights (short interviews, photos, or quotes)

Deliverables

  • Support at 1–2 OK events per month
  • Event-day logistics handled smoothly (check-in, photos, social recap materials)
  • Consistent communication with the OK Board about upcoming events and need

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Marketing, Communications, Event Management, or Business program
  • Outgoing and comfortable talking with professionals and business owners
  • Organized, reliable, and proactive in a volunteer environment
  • Interest in event planning, local business, and community connection
  • Familiarity with basic tools like Google Drive, Canva, and Instagram a plus
